This reading is based on information I have heard, about an ancient custom to sing the first lecture of Easter Vigile: supposedly, each part describing the creation day used to be sung in corresponding mode - first day in mode I, second in mode II, third in mode III and so on - until the seventh day; the canticum after the lesson continues in the mode VIII.\r
I was not successful in finding the information or some score of such a lesson, but I decided to try it on my own and this is the result.\r
